The 28th Annual US Intercollegiate Squash Doubles Championships were contested in Philadelphia this past weekend at the Racquet Club of Philadelphia and Germantown Cricket Club.

U.S. Open Champion and Squash Legend, Diehl Mateer

The United States has sadly said goodbye to a legend of squash – two-time U.S. Open champion, three-time National Champion, eleven-time National Doubles Champion, and U.S. SQUASH Hall of Famer, Diehl Mateer. The 84 year old legend passed away at his home on Saturday.

U.S. SQUASH officially announced the recipients of the 2011-2012 U.S. SQUASH Scholar-Athlete Awards, given to high school student athletes who achieved a Grade Point Average of 3.5 in school and participated in at least four U.S. SQUASH sanctioned events.

Illingworth Wins 7th Tour Title

Julian Illingworth defeated Rafael Alarcon of Brazil in the final of the PSA World Tour Challenger 10 BH Open at Academia Winner Squash in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Despite dropping the first game, 9-11, to the fourth seeded Alarcon, Illingworth, the top seed, took the next three games, 11-7, 11-6, 11-9, to take home his seventh overall tour title.

2012 Women's Squash Week: September 8th-12th

Women's Squash Week will take place September 8th-15th, 2012. With the goal of getting more woman involved and playing squash, events have been planned at clubs in twelve cities across the country. New York and Washington, D.C. have run Women’s squash nights and have seen a dramatic increase in tournament and league play along with the number of women seen on court at the clubs on a daily basis. In addition these event has helped to build a strong community of women’s players in those regions.

Denver Hosts Inaugural Urban Squash Doubles Championship

Last week 24 high school students, representing six urban programs from around the country, descended upon Denver, CO, for the inaugural Urban Squash Doubles Championships. The students, some of whom had never seen a doubles court before, spent the week training with prolific U.S. doubles players Preston Quick, Graham Bassett, Greg McArthur and host Eric Eiteljorg, the Executive Director of Mile High Squash, the urban program based in Denver.

The U.S. SQUASH Board of Directors approved the recent Hall of Fame Committee’s recommendations for inductees to the Classes of 2011 and 2012. The Class of 2011 includes Robert W. Callahan, Joyce V. Davenport and John F. Herrick, and the Class of 2012 members are Leonard A. Bernheimer and Thomas M. Poor.

U.S. Wins Third Straight Ont-Am Title

The United States repeated their victory of the last two years with a resounding 16-8 win over Ontario in the 2012 Ontario-American Challenge at the White Oak Resort and Spa in Ontario, Canada. After losing tight matches in 2008 and 2009, the U.S. juniors overpowered their neighbors to the North for the third straight year to take home the "Battle of the Border" trophy.
